The hot trend salwar's during this festive time for south indian ladies is the maskali.. The Masakali season started last year itself i guess, but it picked up well in the market only this year as the starting prize of the dress was reduced.
every where talks on masakali only. people were also discussing what's there with this name and got information that there is one Hindi song which starts with masakali..
googling gave me updates that it is from movie "Delhi 6" and in which the masakali is the name of the dove in the song. hence this is not the reason for salwar name..
On hearing name masakali, i could recall the name anarkali salwar.. probably they chose the name masakali as it rhymes with the name.
i also remember the anarkali was some dancer during the period of akbar.. on googling i got the info below.
History of Anarkali salwar kameez:
Anarkali ("pomegranate blossom") was a legendary slave girl from Lahore (Pakistan) during the Mughal period. She was a RajNartika. She was a dancer at palace of Great Mughal emperor Akbar. She was supposedly ordered to be buried alive by Mughal emperor Akbar for having an illicit relationship with Prince Nuruddin Salim later to become Emperor Jahangir. Due to the lack of evidence and sources, the story of Anarkali is widely accepted to be either false or heavily embellished. Nevertheless, her story is cherished by many and has been adapted into literature, art and cinema.

The dance called mujra or mujara was famous that time. Famous dancers at palace of mughal kings dance for entertainment of Mughal kings. So, the dresses were worn by the dancers while mujra dance called as mujra / mujara dresses. Later they got famous by name Anarkali dresses or Anarkali salwar kameez in the rememberance of a great dancer and a passionate lover Anarkali.

so now it explains clearly.. all the series of masakali, rasakali , lasakali, etc etc kali's are the series of anarkali type salwar with slight modifications.
They are just making business by giving different name so that it reaches wide market and give huge profit. so instead of having one salwar, people might want to get one in each type (i mean one dress from each of the list of kali's)
so what's your type of salwar for this Diwali??
