What an idea sir ji...

Recently when we were back to home in bike with kids, a crow pooped on Dhanesh hand and on his pants. As we were very near to our home, we asked him to stay as such. We washed him on reaching home.

After a few minutes, Dhanesh came to us and asked, Why this crow did this way on road. It can go in toilet in its home right ? I replied him that Trees are their home and it does not have toilet in its nest. It just goes and some times it goes while flying too.

In our country not all houses have toilets and vidya balan madam is requesting everyone to construct toilet in home for hygine and not to use public places.

Suddenly our junior came and said, the crow could have worn pampers, so that it would not have fell on his brothers hand.

How kids relate and talk?? Imagine a diaper for all birds.. I could not stop laughing..

Vaikalama ulagathoda oru bet...

Recently I saw an advertisement which made me to laugh out loud.

The lady was telling that their fairness cream was best. They are betting against world countries best fairness creams and their product won the bet.

She was telling that, we are betting against best fairness creams of Dubai, Singapore, Japan and results was much impressing with their product. First I got a doubt, why fairness cream are necessary in a country like Japan, where most of them would be fair enough.

Then I told myself, may be those country are manufacturing and selling product in India. By telling it repeatedly in advertisement, they want to force in viewers mind that their product is the best fairness cream.

Particular fairness cream is not new. It exists in market for decades. When I was a little girl, some of my aunts were using it regularly. Other relatives would ask them, if it really works. Those aunts have replied saying that it does and also suggest others to buy and use it. Now after me observing them after a decade, I would conclude that fairness is not provided by the cream at all. May be it provides a coating to the face and we might look little bright while using it.

By nature, we south Indians are neither fair nor dark. Why don't people allow us to be ourselves. They just want to make us feel guilty that we are not fair enough and force to buy and use something which will do nothing.

Recently they have started to advertise fairness cream for men also. When my aunt's used the fairness cream, Uncle's at home would say that it is just waste of money. I don't know what Uncle's of this generation are saying now.

DD and Me

When TV started entering people houses, every one would know what DD means.

It's nothing but DoorDarshan, India's national broadcaster. Every one would talk about what's this week special movie over the weekend. DD News, DD  programs etc.

I had also waited for watching tamil songs which would be played after the list of Hindi songs and the turn of Tamil movie to be telecast-ed in the best state language movies

Now, this generation does not knew about this channel as lots and lots of other channels have come.

DD of DoorDharshan has been replaced by TV anchor DD of Divya Dharshini.

I recently had a thought of changing my blog name Dhanesh Amma to DD's Mom , being a mother of Dhanesh & Deepak. Immediately felt, It would be referring Divya Dharshinis mom. On the other hand, Motherhood was got first by Dhanesh only. So thought , let the blog to remain as Dhanesh Amma itself.

Marriage and Arundhati star

Hindu marriage ceremony has a event where bridegroom shows Arundhati to his wife.

Arundhati is one of the double star. It is attached to the star Vasishtha. Double Stars (visual binaries) are two stars that move around together gravitationally bound to each other.

Like this double Star, the couple are expected to be together for ever.

Hmmm.. Good one.. But stars are possible for view only in the night or rather after evening and till dawn. But people of this generation do see the star under the hot sun after tying the holy knot.

I know.. readers might be interested what could have happend at my case..
[Our marriage happened in a hall. We could only see the concrete ceiling with white paint only. We had so much of rituals to be followed and people were not ready to go out to open sun to have a look at the sky.  What's the use ? No one would be able to identify a star when the sun is glowing hot. I was asked to look at the ceiling and my uncle asked if i see the star.. i smiled back. he told Arundhati is not just one star you will see two stars. I know you cannot see in ceiling, but the myth is followed that we see the star and should live like the couple. I nodded my head. ( that I understand the point) ]

When everybody knew that a star could not be seen in a ceiling why do they ask us to see?

They could have taken a video of the twin stars and show us at the time in an electronic gadget.

In fact they just tell us about the star and ask us watch out in evening.

Marriage and Plantain trees

In past generation , marriages did not happen in a mandapam / party hall. The event was happening at the bride's home. If the house was not big enough to hold all the relatives, a pandhal was made in the street and marriages happened.  The bride would then be taken to the groom's house by the groom family. My parents wedding happened this way.

Later, people started to book a hall for conducting marriage. Still, After marriage relatives would then be visiting the bride & groom house. So a pandhal was kept in front of the house, with the welcome board. This would be easy for the visitors to identify the house. lot of spaces would be used in front of house for the visitors to sit and chat under the roof.

When streets were very narrow or houses on the Highway road, no chances of putting big pandhal. Two full grown plantain tree would be tied on entrance with the serial lights welcome board. Full-grown plantain trees are used as they are Eternal tree of evergreen plenty for endless generations!

Recently I came across one house in Chennai in my neighborhood. I could not stop laughing. They had covered the plantain tree with the white sac. Picture shown below.

Reason is obvious. Our area is fully occupied with residential who have cattle's at home. They would be walking along streets all day. To avoid those cattle's damaging the plantain tree's trunk, they have covered it with sac.

Either the people at home, wanted to avoid bad luck due to cattle (they call it as bad sagunam if the tree fell down before the function)  or wanted to safe guard the plantain tree's trunk as it can be used for some other reason post function. At least they believe humans and left the banana part. Else they would have covered that also with sac.

On seeing this, something came to my mind.. Instead of tying a plantain tree and covering with sac, as they rent the welcome board and serial lights, better they rent a plantain tree made of plastic / thermocol. that way cattle wont damage it.

Human Evolution

Ten years back, I found the below type of pictures on the internet for Human evolution.

Five years back, I received one such below , as IT went boom and life is much around with computers.
A year back, life became go-mobile and people started doing all the stuff with smart phones..
I thought people are going crazy.. creating these type of images, as and when a new technology come into place... but...

last week, I came to see a picture which is completely different from the above two pics.  It had lot of messages in it. Its about man becoming obese by eating too much. The article covered the line saying, earth's resources are being utilized by people, where it is supposed to be consumed by the double the size of current population.

The above picture is surely not good for the human evolution. Eat healthy, at the same time, one should keep body fit.

Drishti Bommai

'Drishti Bommai' AKA 'Ward of the Evil Eye’ is kept in front of the buildings while in construction.

These Dolls are considered to be the remover of `evil eyes'.

The simple one would be, drawn face of devil on a pumpkin or a man created with straws and face drawn with charcoal on a white paint pot.

picture for reference below:

Recently I came across an entirely different ward.. posting here for your view.

Probably the owner of building thought that, there are pretty big evils in the city and the ward should be big enough to frighten them up. ha ha ha. LOL.

Mehndi - Bridal Makeup

Mehndi ( or Mehendi) is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in India.

In Tamil, it is called as Maruthani. The school where I studied had rule not to apply nailpolish / maruthani while attending school. Still, they had exception during the festival time like diwali .

Every year during the festive season , we used to buy the leaves from market before diwali, prepare the paste and apply in our hands. Those were the traditional methods.

myself , my sis and mother used to apply. As my father, being single male in the family, we don't want to leave him and ask him to apply. He will avoid telling some reason. Also I have observed that only boys who are kids, have this maruthani and men don't apply.

In recent years, the ready-made cone was made available at shops, and people started to use them having pictures of modern art , Arabic designs etc.

This maruthani is an essential part in the bridal makeup too. In some parts of north India, they dedicate a day for this mehendi and all the ladies and little girls spend time in applying mehendi and have a fun time.

I was under impression that this Mehendi/maruthani is for sole use of girls, but I was wrong.. Recently I came across a wedding photo , which made me laugh at the view of it. Well, the bride groom in the photo was also having mehendi in his hand, much better than the bride's design.

I had to cut off their faces before posting here, for privacy reasons..

I thought this guy must be crazy. Then on surfing Wikipedia on mehendi came to know that

"The bridegroom is also painted in some parts of India. In Rajasthan, the grooms are given designs that are often as elaborate as those for brides" - [source: wiki]

hmm.. who knows this might soon come to Tamilnadu too..
