A Grinder in the stomach

This happened, when my sister was a pre-schooler. On a weekend,  myself, my father and younger sister were chatting at the living room after lunch. My sister asked a question to my Dad. What happens to the food we eat?

My father wanted to explain her in easy way. Hence told that , there is a grinder inside stomach. It will grind and digest the food. She then asked if the grinder will be running for ever. Father told, yes. so that what ever you eat every day it keeps on grinding and digest the food.

She seemed to be satisfied with the answer. I was aware of digestion and its after process, but I had never thought to know or to see , how the food is digested. However, on hearing about grinder, I was curious enough to see how that grinder will be. But that is not possible. I cannot just like that cut open a human body to see its inner parts.

I left the curiosity to know on it. After a year or two, I got to know about the inner body parts in science subject and the teacher showed the picture of liver, pancreas, small intestine and large intestine etc., I was looking for a grinder like stuff there, but nothing of that sort was present. The teacher also did not spell out a word of grinding or grinder..

Ouch.. My father had told us something which will be easy for understanding. I had taken it as such.

P.S :  I recollected this incident , when our son asked similar such question like my sister.

Travel by Winch

I do not remember when exactly this happend. Surely before my pre-teen. A plan was made for hill temple visit.
The temple of Lord Muruga in Palani. (100 km southeast of Coimbatore and a similar distance northwest of Madurai)

As most kids do, I was also questioning my mother about temple. She was explaining me that it has three modes to reach top of hill.

 1) The stair case way
 2) The slope way
 3) The Winch way

As I had seen the stair case way in Rockfort temple @ Trichy, I was questioning about the other two. My mother told the slope way will be easy way than stair case and added that elephant of the temple cannot walk up via stair case so this path would be used. The Winch, it is like a small train which will go up the hill on a track. Having seen only a train running on the ground, I was quizzed how it will reach the top of hill.

I should have got enough patience to wait for the day, to see the Winch in person and then to travel. But still, I could not keep shut. I kept on asking questions.

How Winch will work ? My mother told, must be like the normal train , this will also move up on a track. (I was thinking, some answer to keep me shut....) she added, I have also not seen it in person. Lets see on that day.

I got doubt. Since the Winch on hill is going vertically up, will it not fall down? My small brain understood that some sort of gravity pull is needed to keep the Winch on track. But I did not know how to ask on it clearly. I asked her is it safe as Winch is going up the hill. My mother got irritated by my question. Yet she said, it is similar to the train. Don't fear.

Well, I belong to the yesterday age. My mother did not have any photo or video to show me how it works. I was worried, how safe the Winch journey would be.

The day arrived and we reached Palani hills and all were set to travel in Winch. There were two tracks. On one track , Winch was on top of hill and on other track, Winch was waiting at bottom of hill for us to board. We used Winch to reach top of hill. Prayed God. For the return trip we chose the stair case, as one Winch has already started to move towards ground, other Winch was on way to reach top of hill and more over a big queue was waiting to board.

The story does not end here. I had to brief up about the Winch experience. All were thrilled to travel by Winch. After all seats are filled in, Winch started moving up. I was quiet excited and enjoyed the journey.

When the Winch was half way up, it stopped. We all were seated in the Winch for more than fifteen minutes, but it did not move up. People were discussing, power down or some technical issues.
My mother gave a look at me and murmured at a low voice, you questioned if it is safe etc., because of which only it has got problem and Winch stopped. How come my casual question can be a reason for Winch to stop half way?. I wanted to ask, but I kept quiet. Winch, however started after thirty minutes halt.

On reaching the top of hill, every one got down and moved towards temple. By that point only I noticed the big and strong string tied up with the Winch. Oh!! This is what I was asking for. Had my mother explained me these at first telling me what a Winch means, I would not have asked further questions.

Seven years back, they have started the rope car in Palani temple. Not sure when I'll have visit to temple in near future. If we plan for such trip, our son will surely have same set of questions on Winch and Rope car. Well, his questions will be answered immediately. Whenever he asks about something which he had not seen (stuff like parachute, gliders etc) his dad connects laptop to internet and explain him with photos and possible YouTube videos.

Lets see, we don't know when Lord Muruga @ Palani temple has fixed his visiting time with us.

P.S. : I have not provided any photos, as we did not have camera at that time to click on the Winch. If you haven't seen Winch , Lot of Palani Winch pictures are there on web. You might search it for yourself if needed.

Just a note...

Twenty four hours a day is just not enough for me, being a working mom with two kids.

One would say, with all the electrical and electronic gadgets @home things are quiet easy. Still I had to do parallel tasks most of time, so that I get sufficient time for spending time with family and have buffer time for unplanned events that fall in and to have personal time for myself too...

Of course, I can cut off an hour sleep to get the sufficient time, which I can not do , for the following reasons.

1. I am late to bed and because of that I can't afford to wake up early morning.
2. I don't get continuous six hours sleep having an infant and preschooler at home.
3. Last but not the least, I enjoy to sleep and relax.

There are many ways we can effectively save time in our daily chores, be it cooking or cleaning or shopping or working or reading or .. lot of or's with the tasks. Still I am quiet busy these days....

coming to the point.. having been busy at home and office, no time to scribble here..

Home Appliances without electricity usage

When I was a kid, Most of families had all traditional items at home for meeting the home needs.

As days moved on, people started to buy items which works with the help of electricity. Listed below are few among them.

Tube light

Fan
Table Fan
mixie
Grinder

Vacuum Cleaner
Washing machine

Slowly, the traditional items started to disappear in many houses as it was occupying considerable amount of space in the room.

Now, that we are  seeing frequent power cuts, people started using inverter. The domestic inverter does not support the power consumption of heavy items like grinder , washing machine etc.

Well, why to go for inverter, when we still have items which works without electricity. It is good that we grab them from the market before it run out of stock.

Pictures provided for easy reference folks...

 Candle Lamp

 Panai Olai visiri

 Traditional mixie (Ammi kal)

Traditional Wet Grinder (Attan kal)

Traditional Dry Grinder (Ural with Ulakkai)

 little ural for grinding spices
Broom for cleaning

Washing stone for clothes
Pictures got by searching in Google images

I know.. In the fast moving world, we can't afford to spend hours of time in using these stuff.

This is just a post to record the items which were used in the past generation (of course still used in current generation too.. :-)

Bed time stories

Our little darling at home, sleeps after hearing bed time stories. Every day he used to ask for new stories.

But these days his story line is fixed. We have to tell him tom and Jerry story only. He picked up this as he liked the tom and Jerry cartoon much.

His favourite episodes: Tom & Jerry with Duck

Every day we have to tell new episodes. But how do we tell new episodes without watching them? So we started our own Tom and Jerry episode.

Tom and Jerry Attending school...
Tom and Jerry going to beach...
Tom and Jerry travel in train to native for vacation...
Tom and Jerry visiting the Park...
Tom and Jerry doing shopping... etc etc..

The stories tied up with his activities.. It went on for a week and he understood the story line. On knowing story is coming to end, he started to modify the story line by a twist and making us to drag the story.

Upon completion of the lengthy story, he will ask for next story. I told him that I forgot and need some time to think and tell. Suddenly he told; Amma, I will tell a story. You listen and tell me back the same story. Clever boy. He said one tom and Jerry episode and asked me to repeat it. We have to tell it back, with the same story line as he said. If I make mistake he corrects it too. Oh no. This is tough.. A bed time story at 11pm and that too without making mistakes..

Atbroker.exe application error

I use remote desktop to connect to a PC with Windows 7 . Got the Atbroker.exe application error followed by black screen. Could not view the desktop despite closing and reopening the session. Same error throw-ed out.

On surfing net, got a solution which works most of time.

Press "CTRL-ALT-END" (the equivalent of “CTRL-ALT-DEL” for remote sessions) followed by ESC / starting Task Manager from the options listed. - It worked for me.

When it doesn’t work, log in with another user and kill the session with the issue or reboot the pc.
